In 1683 William Penn purchased the land that is known today as Newtown Township from the Lenni Lenape Indian Tribe. A year later he founded Newtown Borough and called it his "New Town". The name stuck and today Newtown Borough has a population of about 2,500. The historic town boasts some residences and buildings that were built before the Revolutionary War and others that are brand new.
The surrounding Township of Newtown was not so long ago a farming community. In recent years the housing boom has made it one of the more sought after addresses in Pennsylvania.
